Space becomes time and language becomes image or where does the Ouroboros bite?
Sound installation, 30’ loop
“Puck Vonk has chosen the in-between-space of the kitchen to install her sound piece ‘Space becomes time and language becomes image or where does the Ouroboros bite?’ The kitchen is strictly speaking not part of the exhibition space, but an unavoidable corridor to get you to the second part of the exhibition. In art historical context, the kitchen has been a female or outsider place, and a place of female resistance in for instance Rosler’s Semiotics of the Kitchen or Schütte-Lihotzky’s Frankfurt Kitchen. In Vonk’s sound piece a 3min perfectly sensible sentence is slowed down to a 30min sound piece. In this process all meaning is deconstructed into sound that comes to inhabit the tiny kitchen space and blows up its image into unbearable time, or how the snake of meaning bites its own tail of non-sense.”
